Advent Retreat 2021
As Preparations for Christmas each year often get lost in the busy-ness of family and work gatherings and the pressures of gift-giving. By contrast, Advent invites us to reflect on the event that Christians believe changed history forever – God becoming human in the Incarnation of Jesus.
During this hectic season, you are invited to spend some time with WVIS Associate Spiritual Director, Sr. Cheryl Clemons, OSU, Ph.D., remembering the first Christmas and reflecting on the ongoing Christian call to bring Jesus into the world of our day. Using the writings of Caryll Houselander, especially The Reed of God, retreatants will be invited to reflect on how Mary, Jesus’ biological mother, can serve as a helpful guide and companion as we seek to respond to this call from God.
Giving Birth to Jesus: What Mary Can Teach Us
The retreat will begin as we gather (virtually) on Friday evening, December 3rd, 5:30-8:00 p.m.*, and continues on Saturday, December 4th, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.* Retreat includes presentation, times for quiet reflection, and times for prayer. There will also be opportunities for spiritual direction. *Please note these times are Eastern time
Your experience of these few hours will be enriched if you are able to create a “retreat space” that is, as much as possible, quiet and free of distractions. Turn off the cell phone, be still – and give God a chance to gift you, and your family, during these Advent days.
